Fourth Grade Lesson Plans

Mississippi to The MAX!

Mississippi to The MAX is an arts-integrated unit for fourth grade students featuring four Mississippi artists.  With four lesson plans developed by Teaching Artist Nancy Ray, students make connections in ELA, math, science, social studies, and the arts while learning about Walter Anderson, B.B. King, Elvis Presley, and Jim Henson. The residency involves Teaching Artist Nancy Ray presenting a powerpoint on Walter Anderson to all fourth grade students with a demonstration lesson that follows.

The culminating activity for this unit is a field trip to The MAX (The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience) in Meridian. This project is funded through a matching grant with the Mississippi Humanities Council, a grant through East Mississippi Community Foundation, and The MAX.

Additionally, Mississippi Humanities Scholar Carla Falkner presented an Elvis presentation to all fourth grade students in January 2019.
